Default Primary Attribte: Linked to level instead of spending points

Wow, this is a long thread. I looked through it for about an hour, and didn't see this idea, so here goes...

Currently a profession's primary attribute is just like any other attribute (except they are the only class who posess it). If you want to make use of your primary attribute, the thing that makes you identifiable as your profession, you have to spend Att points on it, just like any other attribute.

What I suggest:
Your Primary attribute becomes an inherant bonus. Your level in your primary attribute increases as your level increases - demonstrating your proficiency in your profession. This would inextricably mark you as a member of your profession - it is what you do after all.

They may not even be doing attributes the same way in GW2, or profession bonuses for that matter, but if they are anything liek the current model, i think this would be a nice addition.

In response to Batmaniii

I think this thread is more of a wish list then a suggestion forum. There are things that players have ideas about that may or may not be cool, or may or may not work in practice. The ideas we post here are to hopefully spark an idea in a developer that may not have been thought of by them initially. The read something and go, "oh, hadnt thought of that, but that sounds like it could work and would enchance this part of the game."

Ultimately, yes, they will do what they want, but who is going to buy a game that a developer created for themselves and not for the majority of the community? Not many (unless they are EA and overhype mediocre games, but that is a story for another thread). Many people have many good ideas that are not that far fetched in practice. I have to say most ideas are just plain impractical including many of my own. But I posted them any way in hopes that one of the guys at Anet reads through and says, well that idea is stupid, however, it gives me an idea that may work in practice. Mostly we are just suggesting things that we think are cool ideas. I have every confidence in Anet that they will listen to the community, but ultimately make the game right for the player base so that its fun, enjoyable, and entertaining while giving us a top notch game that we dont have to go broke in order to play. They will give us what we want, whether we know what we want or not.

Just dont bash those of us who want to actually help and offer constructive material to the future of our gaming lives. If you have no ideas to contribute, bad or good, then you shouldnt be wasting your time posting in a thread like this. I'm sure you have better things to be doing, like HM in GW. That sounds like a better use of time to me.

Ok enough of my ranting. Suppose I should post something constructive. I would like to see astronomical phenomenon. Like on this night, the stars are set to this and you get this buff/debuff. Something that is buffed, but at the same time a debuff that balances it out. Overall, I think that would be annoying, but the concept is intriguing. Perhaps someone else has a better way of doing such things in practice.

Latah!

Default What I want to see in GW2

Many people find the GW series too limited because of the path one is forced to take.
Compared to WoW, the game is only one road leading to an end. What you would be wise to add was a more free-roaming world with several paths to choose, and maybe add alternative endings for quests and the game itself, depending on which path you’ve chosen. To make the dungeon exploring more like the one found in WoW, but it an own twist, would also help the game to feel fresher.
Another element that would make the customization part of GW2 a fresh breeze would be armor drops that players could wear instead of being limited to a set variation of armors. Armors for special achievements would also be a nice addition.

An important feature to add to the free-roaming effect could be more interactive shops inside buildings. Maybe even a poker bar where one could play poker and bet money. The cards would of course have pictures which relate to the GW universe.
Interactive cities with buildings and guards and NPCs who have set routines would complete the overall feel of an interactive world instead of the inactive NPCs represented in the previous games.

Mounts are highly wanted in the GW universe, and if you removed all the portals and just had the old “Fast travel” ability in addition to mounts, the outcome would be even better than the one present in WoW.

Furthermore it would be interesting if you introduced new professions in addition to the present ones, and as Aeon_Xin said - don't tie body type to class(armor tied to class is OK):

- Whip mastery -
Where one could have a character who’s got a Castlevania feel with different types of attacks which affect different types of monsters. Abilities in addition to different attacks which affect different monsters could be stunning and poisons which are brought out by the whip itself or applied poisons.
This mastery could also have a talent called poison brewing for making poisons to apply to ones weapons.
The effects of the poison and the anti-monster abilities are in addition to runes etc.

Suggestions for a name for this profession could be:
- monster hunter
- viper(because of all the stunning effects and the poison, like a viper’s hunting abilities)
- soldier of fortune

- Gun mastery/ gunman/ bandidos -
A profession where one relies on one or two guns or one big gun(like a hunter with different bows: one ranged and one for close combat).
Talents related to this profession could be a talent where one specializes in better aiming, resulting in more hits and a bigger chance of getting critical hits.
Another talent could be one where you get to make different sorts of gunpowder and the bullets which add different effects to your shots eg.
- Silver bullets - many dark creatures suffer more damage
- Exploding bullets – your bullets will explode on impact, often resulting in critical hits
- Swift gunpowder – your bullets move 10% faster
The effects of the gunpowder and the bullets are in addition to runes etc.

It would also be fun if every profession had a talent like poison brewing and gunsmith to add new effects to skills.

Important list:

- a free-roaming environment
- new professions
- new playable races
- armor as loot/drops
- weapons with your character’s name on it eg. “Jin’s Blade”(maybe as a reward for a really hard quest a NPC could produce such a weapon, and you could choose the components)
- more interactive NPCs and environment(open houses and castles etc.)
- A JUMP BUTTON
- the ability to walk up/down steep environment
- Guild Wars Poker
- better dungeons
- mounts in addition to "Fast travel"
- several paths to choose in PVE
- interactive shops
- dressing room - Shft click on an item to see how you would look with it equiped
- AND MOST IMPORTANT: AN AUCTION HOUSE

It is so hard to get one's findings sold just by spaming the channels. One may stand there for hours because the channels are so filled with spaming, that it's almost impossible to read the different auctions before another one pops up. Add an auction house like the one in WoW, but with the ability to add comments and prefered/alternative payment.

Complete character customization, and interchangeable armour.

Characters are too limited, and I'd like to change so much more than just hair and body type. I'd like to completely create my character. The sims body shop could do it, so I don't see why it shouldn't be possible for GW character creation. Perhaps leave it as a choice. You can choose from pre-defined characters, or completely customize your own...

Armour at the moment is too limited. I'd like to see armour that you can buy one bit of, and then add another part of a different armour. If I could do it now for instance, I would take my mesmer, and I would use the rogue's top, but the bottom half of what was the virtuoso armour. (The part that is currently part of the top, not the bloomers...) That way even armour would be far more customizable, giving so much more scope for individuality. The armour is simply not designed to look good mix-matched, which I think should change for GW2.

Well, hello again, I'm here with new set of prepositions.

so here we go:

-Arena net, it would be great if you open Guild wars 2 web site-
-Arena net, it would be great if you make forums with your new guild wars 2 web site. If you lack of forum administrators, pick me I'll work for free! seriously. Just contact me. at least for talk. you can find my mail in my user profile-

i was also thinking about professions

Warrior

he is a tough guy, with multiple roles and with high HP. He can use shields, 1H sword, axes and hammer/maces/clubs, 2H sword, axes andhammer/maces/clubs, thrown weapons. He can also dual wield. He wears heavy armor. Depending on his weapon and his specification* he will have different roles as dmg dealer or tank!

Monk

he is a guy with cloth, light armor. He has lower HP then warrior. Monk can wield staffs and wands with offhand items like ankhs and charms. Monk is a healer, but is also a good spell caster. Monk can decide which will be his main god, and depending on that he will have different role, from more healing like to more spell casting like.

Ranger/hunter

he is a guy with medium, leather armor. He is using a bow and throwing weapons, one handed sharp weapons with option to dual wield. He also has a pet. Ranger/hunter has option of tracking* animals and other creatures. He can also land traps

Rogue/assassin

he is a sneaky* guy. He is using one handed sharp weapons with option to dual wield, but can also use bows and throwing weapons. He can apply poisons to daggers and arrow/thrown weapon. He has medium, leather armor.

Druid

Sylvari ONLY!!

those are guys with medium, leather armor. They can use forces of nature and summon nature creatures. They us staffs and daggers. They are also healers and perform rituals to heal and summon.

Shaman

Charr only

those are guys with medium, leather armor. They use staffs and wands with off hand charms. They use twisted magic* but are also capable of healing

Wizard

those are light, cloth armored guys and have relatively low HP. they use staffs and wands with offhand charms. They use magic to fight. They use many kind of magic, fire, water/frost, air and earth magic, and can be specified in one or more of these magic

Necromancer/warlock

this is a light armored guy and uses dark magic to fight. he can awake dead to do his bidding. He uses staffs and wands with offhand charms and twisted items like skulls

*specification- this would be a option to put your character on different way. Those would be like talents or traits, or whatever.whenever you lvl you gain option to specific further. as more as you spesific, you gain access to spell YOU CHOSE and some spells are more powerful. this is not a meter as in GW 1, but a tree where you develop your character. Here are some preposition for a classes:

Warrior
guardian-bonus for use of shields and one handed weapons adding to armor value
savage-bonus for using dual wield, giving higher dmg
knight-bonus to using 2H weapons, dmg and armor increased slightly, but not as much as for savage or guardian

Monk
the priest of Balthazar-monk has higher dmg, while having no bonus to healing
the priest of Dwayna-monk heals more effectively but his dmg output has no bonus
the prophet- this monk is both healer and dmg dealer, but has gained the access of ''persuading'' people. this means like creating an illusion to other mob or even player in PvP. But really to create and illusion making that mob or player unaware of that. so there should be imagined enemies... something that will make player to start panic. mobs would simply start to run around. This makes prophet very strong, so he should have extreamly low HP and lower defense

Ranger
trapper- increased skill of landing traps, making them more powerful and reducing casting time
survivor- increased skill at applying poisons on arrows and at making some additional temporary equipment, like a thrown weapon, campfire, or material for trap. he also makes his pet more powerful
hawk eye-this hunter/ranger is good at shooting from a bow, so he has increased skill in powers related to bow use and his dmg is higher

Rogue/assassin

Assassinator- increased dmg for attacking spell, making rogue/assassin more dangerous
Sneaker-increased sneaking ability and surprise attacks (those are attack used before coming out of stealth)
trick master- this guys makes better poisons on his weapons and gain access to trick spells that stun or disorient enemies. this guys has greater skill in pickpocketing an lockpicking

Druid

Naturalist- this druid has greater power on charming and summoning animals
shape shifter- this druid gains access to spells that allows him to shape shift to an animal
restoration druid- this druid is specialised in healing and his healing spells have greater effect

Shaman

summoner-this shaman has ability to summon items that will help him in his battles.
mending shaman-this shaman is more healing oriented
charlatan-this shaman uses dark magic and gains bonus dmg for souch spells

wizzard

fire-bonus to fire
earth-bonus to earth
water-bonus to water
air-bonus to air

Necro/warlock

summoner- has greater powers in awakening dead to do his bidding
caster- this guy gains higher dmg bonus to his spells
drainer- this guy is more powerful in draining life from other ppl

*tracking- this requires to change mapping system! in GW1 it looks like i have a satellite map ! You should change the look of the map and adding this spell to rangers so that only they and their allies can see enemies on map, depending on tracking option that is active

*sneaky- introduce sneaking. But this sneaking is not becoming invisible. you can sneak when behind objects and while in shades, or in bushes and grass when holding still!!

*twisted magic- magic that is odd, like superstitious. something like shape shifting your foes...in.. something more.. different, like a frog or a snake?

that's all from me for now, but be sure, I'll be back with more prepositions!

keep up with good work Arena net!

I can't say I have the patience to read through all of these suggestions, so I don't know if this has been posted before.

I love the way the armor system works in GW, I love the max. armor part, armor traders and ascended armor and I think there should be something alike it in GW2. But I suggest we take one step further. Let there Boss Armor (whatever to call it...) that can only be found via killing certain monsters, and as I said before I love the way things are now. So therefor I think they should be quite extraordinary, but only when it comes to looks. You could of course make some sort of index to it... What kind of norn would be able to wear the armor of an asura...

Just something I thought up, hope it's usefull

I'm back with 2 major prepositions!

-trophies! why don't we get a drop from a big bosses or a drop in PvP that we can use for applying to our armor. But these would only be stylish, so they don't add to my stats, but when i PvP, someone will want to attack me, but say ''hmm that guy is tough, i won't fight with him'' or when i walk in town ppl will think ''wow that guy killed a lot of guys, both bosses and players''
think about this, really-

crafting! think about it guys!!!

here are my prepositions for crafting

Gathering:

Herbalism-you collect herbs and use them for alchemy
Mining-you collect nodes and use them in blacksmithing, alchemy and
woodworking
Lumber jacking-you collect wood and use it in woodworking in scholary
Skinning-You skin leather from animals you have killed and use it in leather
working and tailoring
(secondary)Farming-you have a plot of land where you grow plants and use them for cooking
(secondary)Fishing-you fish for fun and use you fish to cook

Producing

Blacksmithing-you use ores and stones to produce heavy armor, weapons (not bows, spears and thrown weapon), shields and other items like sharpening stones. You can use these or sell them to others
Tailoring-you use clothes from drops or item you have salvaged and some leather
Scholary-You produce paper from wood and glue and you use ink to make scripts and scrolls to buff you and your allies and debuff your foes
Leather working-you use leather to produce leather armor
Alchemy-you use herbs to produce potions, elixirs and glues and rare ores to produce dyes and inks
Woodworking-you use wood to make bows and arrows (please make buy arrow in order to shoot a bow, and make minimum distance from me and enemy from where i can shoot him, the fact that i shoot enemy from 10cm is poor and unrealistic) and spears. Some weapons and arrows may require some ores
(secondary) Cooking-makes you cook from gathered materials

Now, everybody can have two (2) professions but every one can have all secondary professions which are farming, cooking and fishing.
one note: don't get me skill that when i sue, show the nearby nodes, herbs and tree that i can cut. Make me look for them!

i know what is major problem.. world is instanced, and ppl will just re-enter area and collect resources from nodes. well here are my prepositions how to avoid this:

Farming: there are places in persistent zones where i have a plot of land and grow plants.
Fishing: i can fish everywhere where is water and if i have a fishing pole. This is for both instanced zones and persistent zones
Skinning: when ever i kill an ANIMAL, and i get a drop, i can also skin it to get hide and leather. This is for both instanced and persistent zones (if i will be able to kill mobs in persistent zones.....)
Herbalism, Mining and Lumber jacking:
1) instanced zones: make 30 places where each mining, herb, and tree node will spawn. But every time someone enters instance, nodes will spawn at only 10 places, and that makes 30000000 different combinations where nodes could be every time i enter the same zone. Even if i know all the places, hey I'll have to work to find them since there is no node tracker
2) persistent zones: make much more nodes that will respawn every few minutes. Like in most other MMOs

Now about how crafting would work.

Miners will use mining pick to mine ore and stone. They can then go to forge and smelt ores to bars. They can sell everything or use it for other professions.
Lumberjackers will cut trees with axes and produce them in various ways as planks or thin wood and sell them or use them in other professions
Herbalists will find herbs and sell them or use them in other professions
Skinners will skin animals with daggers and sell them or use them in other professions.

Blacksmithers will use bars to produce heavy armor, shields and some weapons. They can sell them or use them. They can use stones to produce addons for weapons
Tailors will use leather and clothes to produce their light armor which can be sold or used
Alchemists will use herbs to produce potions, both for healing or for buffing! They can buy ores from miners to produce ink for scholars and dyes for armor. They can make glue that will help scholars to make paper.
Scholar will use glue and thin wood to produce paper and buy ink from alchemists to produce scrolls to buff them selves and alies and debuff foes or sell those scrolls
Woodworker will use planks to produce bows, spear and arrow, but may need to buy ores and bars from miners for some parts for their weapons

This will make players to communicate more and to trade for materials. to you, Arena net, this might sound strange, but to us players, this is great way to meet new friends. In many other MMO games i met friends trough trading.

Of course, some crafting materials will be able to get acquired from drops, some only from drops, and some only by salvaging items.

Farming, cooking and fishing is here to have fun. You can grow vegetables, cook them. You can produce beer and get drunk or you can catch fish and cook it. Cooked items could get you some status bonuses. Some cooking materials could be looted from animals. mmmmm... chicken leg

-make armor and weapons get broken trough fighting, so we need to eventually repair it. This is more realistic!-

I'll be back with more prepositions

I think they shod have armr drops that can be put together like one boss drops a set of metal shoulderpads and another one drops a tabbard and a third one drops a leather huaberk then you go to the armor crafter to get them put together into a new piece of armor, but thats just a dream.
Another thing i wish they had is that you could make a character different from the rest in wheight and height

here i am with more prepositions.

-make more armor slots and slots for jewls:
Head
chest
wrists
gloves
legs
foots
necklease (one slot)
rings (about 5 slots)
earings (2 slots)

also there is one thing, about cloaks... i think cloaks should be part of armor, not a guild emblemer! so clacks should be part of armor, with stats and armor points. cloaks should have different look, from shorter to longer...
and about guild emblemer, i think i have a solution.. excuse me, two solutions
1)make a guild tabard, that will look like [url]http://www.centerstagecostumes.com/Images/Stage2/Guy.jpg[url]
2)make a guild emblem be displayed on my cloak, but cloak will still have armor points, stats and will have different size

Main thing: lvling!

here is my preposition, I am sure you thought bout it, but if you didn't, do it now. even if you did, re-think it.

DON'T MAKE LVLS AT ALL!!

there are other ways to improve you character and ways to show that to other players.

So, as you character fights, lets say, warrior. He will gain greater strength, increasing his dmg, he will get grater stamina, increasing his HP. As more he fights with his weapon, he will become more powerful with it.
on the other hand, a mage like class, will,a s more as he fights get greater mana/energy, and as more as he fights he will get greater stamina, increasing his HP, but less then warrior.
Other players will be able to inspect other players to see their stats. that will display how powerful that character is.
this is just a preposition, i am sure that if you think about it, you will get to better solution, or will drop off from this idea.

see ya later

PROPOSITION. => Something offered for consideration.

A "preposition" links nouns, pronouns and phrases to other words in a sentence. It's a part of speech. (Examples: for, of, as, behind)

I know, I know, "the language police are here" and all that. Honestly, just offering some help. This is not intended in any way as a put down of the ideas presented.

hi,

i think it was not mentioned before.

- add dwarfs as a playable race
- add tengu as a playable race (Maybe in an addon like GW2:Cantha)
- add centaurs as a playable race (Maybe in an addon like GW2:Elona)

Add some kind of gunslinger/mechanic profession with guns, grenades, mines, mechnical robots.

Maybe restrict certain professions to certain races (i.e. Gunslinger only for Asura / no Necros for Norn) or bind professions to regions (ritualist can only originate from cantha and only from races who live there like humans and tengu)

Please make GW2 work out of the box together with wine in a Gold or Platinum state unlike GW1 that has only a silver state.

Kill all forms of grinding.

Since new games use better technologies i don't see a problem in using a scanned in picture of your own face on your character, with some technology to project and adjust your face onto the character, that would make everything way more realistic... it shouldn't have too ofc but it would be nice if it could no?

This would be neat, except...

We all know some genius will scan in some genitals for their fav char "Sir Pecker" or "Alota Fagina". Best to keep the imagery under control from the outset than wait for reports of abuse (unless they plan on putting a XXX rating on the game, and fully enforcing it). The game is currently rated for teens, and there is a reason you can't strip beyond your undies.

They had this addition in The Sims Deluxe, you could scan your face and place it on a character, but due to abuse they changed it for The Sims 2. The changes made everything custmizable through sliders. You could change the size, height etc of lips, eyes, nose, chin and basically everything else. This way you could make a character that looked exactly how you wanted. It could be you, or anyone you know, or even someone you just imagined.

This circumvents the whole genital scanning issue, although it is possible to make a character so ugly you WISH you were looking at someone's genitals instead...

I think this would be a great addition for character creation, that way our characters would be truly our own. The technology exists, so we all know it's possible.

i would love it if they used that... anyway about the abuse of the technique... ye i was thinking of that too when i wrote my the first post: if A'net decides to put that in they'll need to find away to stop those folks... but don't have a clue how they'll be able too

They announced 5 playable races, but i guess you missed the part where they said that that's not the final number, and they don't know what will be the final number.....

no way man... this is Guild Wars... you can expect explosions from bows, but i doubt there will be mines and guns. MAybee for asuras, since they are the ''technically advanced race''

look, there won't be chanta when GW 2 releases, and they don't even know what classes will there be. But i agree about that restrictions, like shaman only for charr and druid for sylvari

NOOOOOO!!!

Ok, perhaps I'm getting emotional about this, but I really don't see a good reason why there should be restrictions. I wanted a Night Elf Warlock in WoW, but they said no. I wanted a Ranger/Necro in GW, and they said: "Sure, enjoy!"

I think most people will adopt the races and classes that fit together well, and that make more sense. But I see no reason to enforce that! In short:

Restricting certain professions to certain races is racial discrimination!

Why not make it that females can only be monks, elementalists, mesmers, and rangers, and males can only be warriors, sins, dervishes, and paragons.
